This dynamic photography course will explore some of the techniques we can use to get the very best images. Students will learn to use some of the more advanced features of their cameras specific to unique situations. We will start by reviewing and practicing the fundamentals of exposure and composition, ensuring that participants are ready to take the next step. Then, using a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, subsequent classes will explore different genres of photography such as landscape, wildlife, portrait, action, photojournalism, macro, and more. These classes will teach photographers the proper settings and techniques used by the pros and delve into some of the more advanced features of your camera.

Participants should have a good quality DSLR or Mirrorless camera and be comfortable using their camera outside of automatic modes. Point and shoot cameras and cell phones will not have the features this class requires.

Instructor:  Chris Stambaugh

Chris Stambaugh graduated from NAIT’s photography program in 1989, opened his own business in 1990 at 19 and has become one of Edmonton’s top-ranked photographers and a leader in the industry. A former president of both the Alberta Professional Photographers Association and the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC), Chris has earned six accreditations in various photographic specialties, the “Service of Photographic Arts” and “Honorary Life Member” designations, and Master of Photographic Arts – 4th Bar.  His work is recognized worldwide and he has won numerous awards.  A finalist for Canadian Photographer of the Year, and for Alberta Portrait Photographer of the Year (five times), he has twice won the award for “Best Wedding Album” in Canada.  A passionate educator, and former photography instructor at Edmonton Public Schools (METRO) and NAIT (Continuing Education), Chris is currently administrator and head instructor at the Burwell School of Photography and enjoys teaching at ELLA.
